Impermanence

It’s been more than a fews weeks since I’ve posted anything. The holidays were rough but I made it through.

My sister Teri passed away last year and this year noticing how impermanent life is. Not anything new, I know, but the gravity of it pulls at my heart strings.

This poem is written for my Aunt Lillian, who has been in my life since I was an infant. She was like a mother to me, and a friend. She has metastatic lung and liver cancer and has a few short months to live. Her loving soul will be missed.

I pray that everyone reaches out to their loved ones and that we honor each other every moment of every day. Because as long as life seems to be, it is, in the end fleeting.

Impermanence

Every soul a shining star

Every involution

Spirit’s breath from afar

a dance in time

a soul’s unique rhyme

tear drops descend

heart candy mends

a dark waning moon

a soul’s cast of blossoms boom

here for now in an exquisite pose

gone tomorrow like a fragile rose

  1. May the memory of all we love that only lingers in memory be for blessings.
I have experienced death early on when I lost my maternal mother before I could remember her smile.
Every year it seems adds to that list of family and friends who I would like to think evolutionize (OK that may not even be a real word) into something better for spirits or souls.

May the remaining time you have with your beloved Aunt give you more gifts to sustain you for the future.

    1. Thank you for your warm thoughts and prayers Jules. I too believe that the ones that go before us become light beings. I like to think that your mother is with you always as there is no separation in love. Yet it still doesn’t take away missing them. Peace to you dear one.

  2. What a beautiful, touching and very moving poem. I’m so sorry to hear about your sister and aunt. You’re right. Life is precious and short. We ought to celebrate and cherish each moment with our loved ones.

  3. A beautiful piece in remembrance of your dear sister, Jordy… I was fortunate to spend two weeks with my sister last summer. We had not seen one another for more than 20 years… What a blessing it was to reconnect in person, if for only for a brief time. Now that we’ve reconnected, we talk on the phone every Sunday and i am feeling so blessed. Marie has serious heart problems and she’s the only family left here on earth. ❤ I'm cherishing the beautiful memories we've made together over the decades and so glad we have a little time to make new ones. ❤

    1. I am happy for you Bette. It is very difficult to lose loved ones. Yet with it comes the understanding that life is so fleeting. Bless you and your sister’s love for each other. It transcends all, doesn’t it?💗

  4. Your poem is full of lovely sentiment. Every now and again life’s impermanence comes to haunt us and we have to face it head on. It is hard to find the light at these times. I hope that you can find some peace and light in these days with your Aunt.

    1. Thank you, Paula. These past few years have come with a lot of transition. I will be with my Aunt Lillie through this difficult time and that is a blessing. I live close to her now, she is in Carlsbad. Thank you for your kind words, Paula. Bug hugs!🤗

  6. Condolences for your sister and hugs for you and your aunt. I’m sorry to hear about her prognosis. Grief upon grief is a very heavy burden. A former supervisor of mine had a figure in his office called the “grieving Buddha” – a figure hunched over with his head in his hands. Your words “an exquisite pose” remind me of this grieving Buddha. Sending hugs your way!
